What Travelling with Himalayan Exposure is all About
Determined to provide today's traveller with new experiences in amazing places Himalayan Exposure designs and conducts a few specialty trips every year.
We at Himalayan Exposure believe the best way to travel and learn is through interactive education and experience. In this way become a part of our new environment and not an 'outsider looking in'. Because of this philosophy Himalayan Exposure does things a little differently than your conventional tour operator.
Why Travel With Us?
The main reason is, we love Asia
and the people that live there. This enthusiasm is infectious and we love
sharing it with like minded travellers.
While Himalayan Exposure is not a non-profit organisation, we have devoted a lot of time and personal effort to develop a system whereby our trips provide the greatest possible benefit to the communities with whom we interact, as well as giving you and awesome trip. It is not easy to see who is best served by our visits. Only by extensive time 'on the ground' can we ensure our visits are interactive, respected and appreciated.
We can't say we always get it right, but we try to do our best. We are constantly researching relevant causes and projects to support. A proportion of our profits are donated toward worthwhile community projects. Usually specific projects are sponsored by particular trips. For example our Tibet trip provides invaluable support for the Project for the Blind-Tibet in Lhasa.
And with adventures to suit all travellers, the aim is to ensure you feel like you are travelling with a group of friends rather than on a tour to special places which you are benefiting by your presence.
Trips for Everyone
Our aim is to provide real INTERACTIVE
EXPERIENCES so that in the relatively short time you feel like you have truly
lived the country, the culture, the people and its magic of your destination.
We hope to make it feel like you're travelling with a group of friends to
amazing places with experienced people who know the area to ensure you get
the most from your vacation.
Meals
During our trips no meals are included
on route unless specified. All meals during treks will be included as part
of your trip. When trekking the meals will be a combination of local and international
cuisine, well balanced to suit all tastes. When in towns all group members
will be able to choose where you would like to dine.
The variety is endless and the taste
outstanding. Standards of hygiene have improved over the years making eating
out safer and a diversity equal to anywhere in the world make the food one
of the exciting additions to your vacation. If there are any special needs
that you may require please let us know at the time of booking. For more information
regarding what is and isn't included please refer to the relevant trip dossier.
Accommodation
We like the accommodation to be comfortable in the towns where hotels are
available. All accommodation is on a twin share basis. We travel in a lot
of out of the way places where the standard of accommodation is very low.

Safety
There can be no compromise on safety
when travelling through Asia or anywhere for that matter. Himalayan Exposure
takes every precaution to ensure the safety of its travelers on all our trips.
Our guides are trained in first aid and years of experience allows them to
read the conditions on the ground. On
occasions decisions will be made regarding the groups continued progress.
This will be solely the responsibility of our guides. It is imperative that
all group members have comprehensive travel insurance when travelling with
Himalayan Exposure.
Conditions in Asia have improved over the years and first class facilities mean that treatment for major problems that may occur is never far away. The same can be said about dining out in Asia where standards of hygiene have improved immensely over the years.

Pre departure information
Detailed pre - departure information is available online or on request to
all travellers and will immediately be forwarded upon payment of your initial
deposit.
There are a lot of questions traveler's have before leaving for Asia, especially if it for the first time. We do our best to make sure the information we provide is up to date and comprehensive. But we can't anticipate everyone's concerns so if there is something we haven't covered here or elsewhere contact us and we'll tell you exactly what you need to know. Our pre-departure information outlines all the things you need to know before you leave home but before meeting up with us at our joining point in the country concerned.
We also try to promote a lot of discussion about relevant issues before the trip begins. We don't have any message boards yet, so we have to do it by email. It is important in this day and age of tourism and its great impact on the cultures and countries of the world that some sort of conscience and associated understanding is incorporated in the traveler's psyche. We want people to enjoy their holidays, but be aware of the issues of the people they interact with both during the trip and upon return home. This is very important to us and we will do our best to instigate discussions and provide relevant information to the best of our ability before and after the trip. This will include ways we can be involved in making the communities through which we travel fulfilled because of our visit. And upon conclusion how you can continue your support, understanding and learning.
This is all part of our aim is to keep operations small and personal. To provide real INTERACTIVE EXPERIENCES so that in the relatively short time you feel like you have truly lived the country, the culture, the people and its magic. If there's anything more you need before your departure please don't hesitate to contact us no matter what the query.
Do you REALLY want to do this?
This is a question every traveller must ask themselves at least a couple of times before booking. There's nothing like the feeling of being deep in the mountains, 4 days walk from the nearest roadhead and wanting to be elsewhere. For the most part though, whether in Thailand or the Philippines or Borneo it is true to say that conditions and services have improved throughout the world of travel and in reality no one is really THAT far away from 'home' anymore. The advent of telephones and road construction across some of the most inhospitable terrain is bringing the most remote cultures into the modern world. Cyber cafes are as common as Hindu cows on the streets of India and Coca-cola can be bought at Everest Base camp.
We hope to explore and discover and learn and promote the unity of humanity in the environments that we travel. We aim to ensure fellow traveler's are comfortable and fully informed before leaving home. In this way you can be sure to get the most out of your journey.
Health
All travellers should ensure they
have the appropriate vaccinations for the country or region they intend to
travel in. it is your responsibility to ensure these are done well in advance
of any travel. Please consult your doctor for further advice.
Health and hygiene standards have improved over the years througout Asia but there are still some things you need to be aware of and prepare for. Travellers' diarrhoea can be caused by viruses, bacteria, or parasites, which are found throughout the region and can contaminate food or water. Infections may lead to more serious cases of diarrhoea and vomiting, fever, or liver damage. With these thoughts in mind we at Himalayan Exposure ensure that the food we eat and the water we drink are safe and do our utmost to ensure your health while on your trip but you can make some preparations before you leave home. Here are some general tips...
To Stay Healthy, Do:
- Wash hands often with soap and water.
- Drink only bottled or boiled water, or carbonated (bubbly) drinks in cans
or bottles. Most restaurants, hotels and other institutions you come into
contact with also provide clean drinking water that is provided clean by the
government, and then filtered through an industrial aqua guard filter on the
premises. You will rarely see us at Himalayan Exposure drinking bottled water
because of the waste it produces but also because of the readily available
alternatives that exist en route.
- Eat only thoroughly cooked food or fruits and vegetables you have peeled
yourself. If it isnt cooked make sure it is washed in water that you
now is clean.
- Protect yourself from insects by using repellents (applied sparingly at
4-hour intervals) and wearing long-sleeved shirts and long pants from dusk
through dawn.
- To prevent fungal and parasitic infections, keep feet clean and dry, and
do not go barefoot.
