Safety and Security

Safety and security on all of our adventures is paramount in our planning and preparation. Without the feeling of safety it is difficult to enjoy yourself wherever you may be travelling around the world.

Before you travel, the best advice we can give is to be informed. On this page you'll find relevant information to Himalayan Exposure and it's travel poilicies and measures to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. You'll also find links to some useful websites for your own pre-departure research. See below for links to internationl travel warnings.

ABOUT HIMALAYAN EXPOSURES SAFETY NETWORK

People on the Ground
As a registered tour operator travelling in remote regions or Asia we take every precaution to ensure the safety of all of our travellers. To this end we closely monitor the situation both on the ground and from afar. For 12 months, 365 days of every year we have people in Asia, where most of our trips are operated, keeping us abreast of the situation. We find this information invaluable to contrast and compare with the sensational journalism of the media.

Diplomatic Advice
Being an Australian company, our policy is to follow the advice of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. We keep updated to dangerous situations and areas of probable concern to ensure that we are informed, aware, and can make appropriate changes when necessary.

In addition, we try to ensure the maximum knowledge and understanding of any situation by obtaining a number of viewpoints. Diplomatically we also look to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London and The State Department in Washington. These offices provide invaluable information to companies and individuals alike and should be consulted by all travellers before embarking on their adventure.

Media
While the media is often sensationalistic, it is still a good source of information and one we use regularly. Again, it is important to get multiple viewpoints on any situation in order to make and informed and educated judgement on any situation. The internet is a great resource to this end, and on any given day we at Himalayan Exposure read newspapers in India, Pakistan, and Australia and consult international news outlets for all the latest information.

The links below are those we most commonly use to keep us informed.
CNN Asia
Tribune India - Local Indian Newspaper
Times of India - National Indian Newspaper

Individual Responsibility
One of the most important things you can do before embarking on our adventure is read as much as you can about the places you are going and the things you will be seeing. Most importantly our trip dossier outlines a great deal of important information regarding pre-departure preparation. Vaccinations and visas often take time and leaving them to the last minute could jeopardise a safe and relaxing vacation.
